Biography
Growing up in Vietnam, I was a competitive kid and have always been involved in sports that allowed me to push my competitive nature! Since I was 6 years old, I have been playing soccer competitively and played at a very high level, while being coached by the Arsenal F.C.
After immigrating to Canada during late 2014, I had to leave my soccer team behind and pursue a new life in a new country. In high school, my friends convinced me to purchase my first gym membership, then got me hooked into working out, and fitness became a huge part of my life! During my first year of lifting, I met a competitive powerlifter named Jason who inspired me to pursue the sport because he was a National Bench Press champion who told me I had potential.
I competed in my first meet and broke provincial records, while suffering a knee injury during the process! As the years went by, I worked my way up from winning the Summer Open meet, the Regional qualifier, Canadian Nationals, then qualify for the Canadian National Team despite suffering a hamstring tear in the process!
I considered representing Canada at the World Championships as one of my biggest accomplishments to date. I placed 3rd in my first ever international meet after only 3 years of competing.
This journey would not be successful without the support of my friends, family and my coach Jimmy Willard! I am very thankful for SBD Canada who supports me by providing high quality equipment to assist my training.
What is your favourite lifting memory?
Pulling my final deadlift at IPF Junior World's and securing my bronze medal, barely winning on bodyweight.
What is one piece of advice you have for up and coming athletes getting into strength training or strength sport?
Go at your own pace, mistakes happen because they are learning opportunities, which make you better in the long run!
What is your favourite lift or event?
Deadlift, despite it being my most inconsistent lift. That makes me love the process of learning how to do them properly.
What is your favourite product and why?
10mm Belt
It provides the perfect amount of support, and looks very stylish.
What 3 other items are your go to and why?
Knee Sleeves
Flexible Medium Wrist Wraps
Standard Lifting Straps
As someone who has suffered a knee injury, the SBD knee sleeves have provided great support to prevent injury, and allowed me to lift heavier weights!
The SBD flexible wrist wraps also prevent any discomfort during squats and assist with a better bar position on my back!
The SBD lifting straps help maintain the health of my hands and allow more volume during deadlifts without tearing a callous, plus they look amazing!
What colourway is your favourite and why?
Classic
Red and black means classic and iconic
Why do you believe SBD is the gear all athletes should use?
They are the gold standard of lifting gear, and the products lasts a very long time, an investment that athletes only have to repurchase once every decade!
SBD has provided equipment with top tier technology and I have being using their products since the day I started powerlifting! Year after year, they continue improving their products and provide different colorways for more variety which means an athlete can look amazing while lifting!
