Biography
I have been competing in powerlifting for a little over 6 years now. A friend by the name of Ryan Rowsell convinced me to do my first local meet in 2018 after seeing me train at our local YMCA and after that initial experience of community and achievement from powerlifting, I was hooked.
My biggest accomplishment to date as a lifter would have to be securing an Open Classic Worlds spot at the Eastern Canadian championships in 2024, from never finishing higher than 6th at nationals to getting a chance to represent Canada at the highest stage is an indescribable feeling.
I currently train at REPS Fitness with some of my best friends in a small back room home to Iron Body Works Powerlifting run by Tom and Stef Kean. Tom Kean or TK is my coach, we've been working together for a little over 3 years. He's helped shape me into the lifter I am today, not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to train with their coach or have them by their side for every big set so I do my best not to take it for granted.
I am from a small town on the west coast of Newfoundland called Mount Moriah. Outside of lifting I work with TELUS Health as an occupational health kinesiologist. Big thank you to my parents and grandparents who are my biggest fans/supporters. They have been incredibly supportive in my pursuit of success in both Powerlifting and my personal life.
What is your favourite lifting memory?
My favourite lifting memory is winning best Junior at the North American Powerlifting Federation Championship in 2022. It was my first international competition and so many people helped me get to that meet through finances, job opportunities and training with me at random hours. To be able to win that meet for not just myself, but also for them, made it feel so much more special.
What is one piece of advice you have for up and coming athletes getting into strength training or strength sport?
Do not feel you have to be "Strong" before you compete. Give it a shot and you'll meet some some great likeminded people and see what our sport has to offer!
What is your favourite lift or event?
Squat
What is your favourite product and why?
13mm Belt
Ever since I switched to an SBD belt I cant imagine going back or using anything else.
What 3 other items are your go to and why?
Powerlifting Knee Sleeves
Flexible Medium Wrist Wraps
Figure 8 Lifting Straps
These are 3 items I use every week in training, they help me lift effectively and safely.
What colourway is your favourite and why?
Classic
I've always loved red/black. I drive a red car, my shoes are red/black, even my barbell is red with black sleeves.
Why do you believe SBD is the gear all athletes should use?
SBD gear is unrivaled in quality. SBD sponsors and puts off phenomenal high end meets which help draw eyes to our sport which fuels the overall growth of strength sport.
Why do you believe in working with SBD Canada as a Sponsored Athlete?
SBD Canada gives back to the sport in many ways and they provide opportunities for lifters like myself to travel and compete at the highest level. Being an SBD athlete makes me want to continue to give back to the sport to help the next generation.
