Biography
I've been lifting since 2012, and funny enough my first competition was at a meet that Ryan and Rhaea Stinn were running.  I got into the sport as a sort of outlet and a reason to train because I loved the training so much.  As far as accomplishments, I've broken 3 world records, won 9 national championships, and came second place at the classic world championships in 2016.  I train out of Calgary Barbell HQ, which is also where I run Calgary Barbell as a coach and educational content creator.  Outside of lifting, I basically just hang out with my dog and my wife Selena, or play video games, and I very much enjoy collecting underground heavy metal records.
What is one piece of advice you have for up and coming athletes getting into strength training or strength sport?
Learn to love the process.  Learn to enjoy the training for the training's sake and detach the love you find there from your numbers and the performances.  Inevitably there will come a time where you're held back in some way by circumstances or your body, and if you can pivot your training and still love what you're doing, you're about 100% more likely to come out the other side in a positive space.
What is your favourite lift or event?
Deadlift
What is your favourite product and why?
Simple, yet robust and well designed.  I've had issues with both lever and prong belts in the past and the SBD belt solves them all.
What 3 other items are your go to and why?
Powerlifting Knee Sleeves
I honestly don't think I ever want to squat without sleeves again.  And after wearing the new Powerlifting sleeves, I don't ever want to squat without them haha.  I also find the wrist wraps do exactly what I need for either lift, flexible for squat and stiff for bench.
What SBD colourway is your favourite and why?
I wear a lot of black and it fits my style.
Why do you believe SBD is the gear all athletes should use?
SBD makes great products and they support their athletes in a way that I don't see many other companies stepping up to.
Why do you believe in working with SBD Canada as a Sponsored Athlete?
Because of the people behind it.  I have great relationships with the people running SBD Canada and that was one of the biggest things for me when deciding to work with a company is the people I'm working with on the regular.
